Exploring the Pope John Paul II Tower: A Historic Landmark in Bacolod City

 

The Pope John Paul II Tower, a seven-story landmark in Bacolod City, stands as a tribute to the late pontiff who visited on February 20, 1981, and held a historic mass for nearly one million devotees in the BREDCO reclamation area. Built to honor this monumental event, the tower was commissioned by BREDCO’s president and features an eight-foot bronze statue of the pope, unveiled on February 18, 2010. Perched atop the tower is a viewing deck offering panoramic views of Bacolod City, while its interior houses memorabilia from the pope’s visit, including personal items, photographs, and commemorative coins. A glowing twelve-foot cross crowns the tower, visible from afar at night.


Visitors are greeted by an eight-foot bronze statue of the late pope at the entrance, a symbol of his enduring legacy. Inside, the tower houses a collection of memorabilia, including photographs, garments, and personal items used during his visit, offering a glimpse into that monumental day. The viewing deck on the top floor provides stunning panoramic views of Bacolod City, while the illuminated 12-foot cross atop the tower serves as a beacon of faith and hope, visible even from afar.

 


Open daily with an affordable entrance fee of P20, the tower is conveniently located along Rizal Street. For the best experience, plan your visit during the dry season (December to June) and arrive in time to witness the breathtaking sunset from the viewing deck.
